Leading the Way! Equity in Dual Enrollment at GCCA

Our friends at The Community College Research Center, part of Teachers College at Columbia University, recently released a study explaining the importance and power of dual enrollment. While Gateway —  and our Gateway to College Model —  is not featured in this playbook specifically, we are always thrilled when dual enrollment gets recognized for the million students it helps each year to achieve their high school graduation, college attendance and college graduation dreams! We applaud dual enrollment efforts across the country and we are thrilled to share the findings with you. They’re important!

Gateway shares many common attributes and our strategy ably focuses on equity and inclusion for all of our dual enrollment students. We are co-located at Riverside City College and we partner regularly to give our students access to their many programs and resources. You’re on a college campus while attending high school (when not in a global pandemic and learning remotely). With flexible schedules, self-pacing, multiple options for credits and classes, plus online, in-person and hybrid models — Gateway is YOUR way!

“Dual enrollment students are more likely to graduate from high school, enroll in college, and complete college degrees.”

We are dedicated to each and every one of our students. We develop our relationships to ensure trust and support. We didn’t lose a single student in our graduating class last year, despite the ravages and upheaval of the pandemic. Everyone made it! That’s a testament to the hard work and supportive nature of our dual enrollment work together.

Through our innovation and commitment to our Gateway students we actively engage in the strategies identified in the playbook as essential for dual enrollment success. We prioritize equity. We keep our access available and ready for all students — whether the need is for flexible scheduling, credit recovery, tuition-free schooling as well as help with access to technology and training, or differentiated, self-paced learning. We enthusiastically advise on and travel the high school graduation journey alongside our students with true 1:1 supports.

Our teachers are so inspired by and engaged with our students. Watching how hard our Gateway students work to get that diploma — finally!! — is so exciting. We are filled with pride and know that our work to help every student feel that they belong is also truly a value-add. Not only do we offer high quality academics, we offer multiple pathways to achieving your educational dreams.  You can do hard things — your Gateway team can and will help you get there!

More than a million high school students across the nation participate in dual enrollment each year.”

About Gateway

Gateway College and Career Academy (formerly Gateway to College) is an early college public high school launched in 2004, as an answer to the growing number of students who were disconnected from their education and not on track to obtain their high school diplomas. Our highly qualified teaching and counseling staff supports and guides our students on their educational pathways, establishing a bond of trust and the motivation to make it to the finish line.

Riverside City College is an ideal partner, helping our students transition to college education via concurrent enrollment in GCCA and RCC, and giving access to all of the college’s resources and supports. You belong here!
