At Gateway College and Career Academy (GCCA), we are focused on you — our students. That focus isn’t just on what did or didn’t happen for you in your academic journey before joining us. That focus isn’t wholly targeting where you are now. Our focus on each student as an individual means we embrace who you were, who you are — and what matters to you going forward. What do you want for your future?
Our Gateway students are filled with courage and resolve; for themselves and for future generations. Everyday with our students we see courage, grit and resilience. We see the hard choices you sometimes have to make, and the strength of character to keep going. We’ll see yours, too and we’ll cheer you on! You belong here.
Our long history in alternative education means we’ve seen students through hard times and that we’ve pressure-tested more than a few pathways to achieve graduation dreams. Our partnership with Riverside City College enables so much more than just dual enrollment. We leverage resources, share programs, and inform futures. College is no longer unknown when you join Gateway College and Career Academy (GCCA). You get a taste for the rigor and the options, you can sample classes and test drive programs. Welding. Drama. Even more…just ask us!
Our students are a school community and are equipped to be part of their larger communities outside of GCCA. We empower big life thinking — about doing good work in life, making a difference. We talk about how to share in the resolve to restore equity to education, or think about their impact on healthcare and economic systems. By developing growth mindsets, building on 21st century learning and understanding passions and skills — our students truly think about the future. You can, too. We’ll help.
At Gateway we believe history, experiences and takeaways create empowered lives. We support every student 1:1 with our flexible class schedules, safety nets, and our supportive and engaged faculty and staff. Our counselors are thrilled to get to know our students and support every curveball that comes your way. Together, we can tackle it all.
We create and curate opportunities for our students — just like you — by knowing what challenges are happening in real time and where and how we can become your last stop — before finally and truly graduating high school. Feedback, small classes, flexible schedules, addressing different learning styles and learning loss, credit recovery, mental health support and more — it’s all available from GCCA.
Recently, we read the results from the survey entitled, “Young People’s Mental Health In 2020: Hope, Advocacy, And Action For The Future”. Some highlights include:
- The top ways young people want support to make a difference include support for their own mental health, opportunities to learn about mental health, connection to a mental health advocacy community, and training to support their peers’ mental health.
- Only 24% of young people think training adults would help them with their mental health challenges, versus 47% who want to learn more about how to help their own mental health.
We will do our part to share mental health training and continue our advocacy and community. Our Gateway students are persevering through hard times. Students just like you — took this survey and shared their voices. We affirm these mental health needs — and the impact of finding your voice and its place in this world. We encourage that voice, that lens for kindness, for empathy, for courage and for change. Mental health is way too important to ignore.

About GCCA
Gateway College and Career Academy (formerly Gateway to College) is an early college public high school launched in 2004, as an answer to the growing number of students who were disconnected from their education and not on track to obtain their high school diplomas. Our highly qualified teaching and counseling staff supports and guides our students on their educational pathways, establishing a bond of trust and the motivation to make it to the finish line.
Riverside City College is an ideal partner, helping our students transition to college education via concurrent enrollment in GCCA and RCC, and giving access to all of the college’s resources and supports. You belong here!
